St. Mary of Victories Catholic Church was established by the Catholic church for the many Germans that came to live in the area right before the Civil War. The church was built in 1843 in "Chouteau's Landing" and was the second Catholic church built in the City of St. Louis after the Old Cathedral. George I. Barnett and Franz Saler were the architects. Barnett also designed the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. Today it serves a congregation whose ancestors fled the Hungarian Revolution in the 1950s and is known as the "Hungarian Church". The church building is a City Landmark and is also on the National Register of Historic Places.

Mass is held in Latin, the only Mass in Latin in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, on Sunday at 9:00am. English-Hungarian Mass is at 11am on Sunday.
